"Since the Breaking the Red Ajah has committed itself to the protection of the people from the madness that descends upon Male Channelers who touch the tainted half of the One Power. We have dedicated our lives to searching for that male spark that may lead to the destruction and murder or worse, to a channeling male darkfriend. We also search for the true Dragon Reborn so that the tower may guide him and protect him from his madness and we will put down any false dragon."


Below is a log of a class held by Hikiko detailing some of the history of the Red Ajah, it's development and the role of the Red Ajah in today's world:

Hikiko says 'Good day ladies, thank you for coming'

Hikiko says 'Now everyone, avoid eating and drinking until the break, and if you have questions simpy raise your hand.'

Hikiko looks at you to make sure you're listening and then starts

Hikiko says 'The Red Ajah'

Hikiko says 'What is it, how did it come to be, what does it do? I'll try to answer those and any other questions you have about it in this class'

Hikiko says 'The records of what happened at the end of the Age of Legends is scattered and distorted by the mists of time'

Hikiko says 'But what is known is that a Bore was dug through the very Pattern itself and Dark One attempted to break free'

Hikiko says 'There was War, something we believe was unknown then, Trollocs, Balefire, the Forsaken walked the land and the Dark One's touch was upon the world'

Hikiko says 'Yet though those years are remembered with fear, it was the horror that followed that broke the world'

Hikiko says 'Some Thirty companions including Lewis Terin Telamon are known to have survived the strike on Shayol Ghul'

Hikiko says 'And they all, all of them went mad and they broke the world'

Hikiko says 'Highly trained male Aes Sedai spent around half a century flattening mountains, destroying cities, creating seas and deserts, and literally destroying the world'

Hikiko says 'It was during that time that bands of women joined together in common causes - ajah's as they were known'

Hikiko says 'Some fought the remnants of the Dark One's army, some tried to preserve knowledge, some helped humanity rebuild'

Hikiko says 'Others tried to heal the taint, a millenia of effort that regretfuly failed'

Hikiko says 'There were only two ways of protecting the world from men who could channel, gentling, or death'

Hikiko says 'And that's how it is believed the Red ajah was formed'

Hikiko says 'Sometime between it's begining and the formation of the White Tower at the end of the breaking it became the Red Ajah'

Hikiko says 'A society within the White Tower who's aim was is to prevent another breaking by hunting and gentling men who channel'

Hikiko smiles wryly 'They haven't been idle'

Hikiko says 'Raolin Darksbane, he declared himself the Dragon reborn within a generation or two of the Breaking'

Hikiko says 'Yurian Stonebow raised the Dragon's banner causing chaos during the Trolloc wars, as if the Red didn't have enough to do with the Dreadlords coming from Shayol Ghul'

Hikiko says 'Countless men, some famous such as Guare Amalasan, other's barely remembered such as Davain, most forgotten, but all genteled by the Red Ajah'

Hikiko says 'What have all these names in the distant past have to do with us, it's history, right?'

Hikiko takes a deep breath and rapidly lists 'How about Bryan, Caliburn, Cervantes, Dayne, Dozentrio, Dovim, Ezrul, Golam, Hornet, Huma, Jalagang, Jizzah, Kenny, Logain, Lufia, Mazrim, Mogg, Muhaer, Mukal, Scion, Sinarm, Tegg, Vail, Yerilan, and so many others'

Hikiko's eyes fix on you

Hikiko says softly 'Some of them, such as Lufia, and Huma have been genteled, but suffice to say, there's a lot of work to be done'

Hikiko says more forcefully 'That! is what the Red Ajah is here for'

Hikiko says with emphasis 'And that! is why there needs to be some Red in all of you'

Hikiko suddenly smiles red lips full of mirth 'Now I don't suddenly expect all of you to suddenly join the Red Ajah'

Hikiko says 'but more seriously there are things you must consider'

Hikiko says 'the little bit of Red in all of us I just mentioned'

Hikiko says 'for examply Mother, the Amyrlin Seat is renouned for her ability to hunt men who can channel'

Hikiko says 'but if your strengths don't lie in that area what else can you do?'

Hikiko says 'I'd expect any Novice and Accepted to keep their eyes open for men who could channel'

Hikiko says 'But more importantly teach the commoner to do the same'

Hikiko says 'It's their brother father son husband they think we hunt'

Hikiko says 'They must understand why we do it, to save these men from destroying everything that they once held dear'

Hikiko says 'How do you spot a man who channel's well three things'

Hikiko says 'Firstly the taint, it weekens them, they won't be as skillful or strong as the strongest men'

Hikiko says 'And as the taint progresses and they decend into madness, they'll do things that even they don't expect'

Hikiko says 'That is what raises your suspicions'

Hikiko says 'When they channel, then it's confirmed'

Hikiko says 'I hope this goes without saying, but I don't expect any Novices to be hunting after a male channeler, and those Accepted who have battle rights, should still be wary of tackling a man who can channel'

Hikiko says 'Some men claim to fight the Dark, to be able to hold off the taint, but history has shown us that there is no cure, the damage it causes is certain and permanent.'

Hikiko says 'Those of weak character simply succumb to the Dark one's lure more quickly, but in the end they all go insane or give in to that temptation.'

Hikiko says 'Some other considerations, most of you will have spent a moment or two in the warder's practice yard?'

Hikiko winks

Hikiko says whistfuly 'Those young men, so handsome, so strong and brave'

Hikiko smiles sadly

Hikiko says 'Remember the younger he is, the more likely he could still channel so if you're going to bond, pick an old one.'

Hikiko says 'Imagine bonding with a man, sharing your lives together, only to have to gentle him one day'

Hikiko shakes her head sadly

Hikiko says 'I can't imagine it, even though I'm standing here talking to you about it, but it could happen.'

Hikiko puts on a cheery smile 'So, pick an old Gaidin, they also tend to have a bit more sense where it counts'

Hikiko winks

Hikiko says 'Since the Trolloc wars there haven't been many Sisters within the Red Ajah'

Hikiko says 'In recent times we've had Galina, Elaida, Tara, Orenda, Kalys, Kaila, Sappho, Fiona and Lara Sedai'

Hikiko says 'That's it, so for those with more than a little bit of Red in you'

Hikiko says 'You might want to find out how to become a Red apprentice, but as a minimum you must be level 30 and a wearied novice.'

Hikiko purses her lips
