"Since the Breaking the Red Ajah has committed itself to the protection of the people from the madness that descends upon Male Channelers who touch the tainted half of the One Power. We have dedicated our lives to searching for that male spark that may lead to the destruction and murder or worse, to a channeling male darkfriend. We also search for the true Dragon Reborn so that the tower may guide him and protect him from his madness and we will put down any false dragon."

When a man will take a criminal in his house we call him a fool, but when an Ogier does the same, their trust is seen as honorable not as foolish. We of the tower know the power of truth and the importance of trust, but if we were to say what was on our mind without concealing would we still be honored for our truthfulness? or seen as daft? Yet the Ogier always speak their minds, dishonesty or concealment runs completely contrary to their nature. If a lord closed himself up in his keep forsaking the outside world under the belief that what happened in the outside world could not effect him behind his walls would he be seen as a genius or scorned for his isolationism? The Ogier stick to their steddings, forsaking the outside world. Kingdoms have crumbled and formed without the Ogier even noticing, yet when we hear them whine because their Ogier groves were destroyed we give them sympathy rather than waking them to the reality that those groves where part of an outside world they have shunned.

Why are we so kind and gentle to such a species of simpletons? Why do we not treat them like a farm wife treats her husband when his ignorance costs them their harvest? Because their childlike innocence, their simplicity of life touches us. Touches the part of us which wish for the blissfulness of childhood. We attempt to shelter them from the harsh realities of our world as best we can just as we shelter our children not wishing them to be exposed to the harshness or reality. But the Ogier are not children, and our coddling of them in both this age and the last caused one of the most destructive events of this age. In your studies you undoubtedly learned of the breaking of the world.

This event lasted at our best estimation over a thousand years (this is a rough estimate since few documents remain from the time period, and no calendar was in effect). Have you ever wondered if all those trained in the use of the male half of the one power to the taint if not instantly (as most did) within a few years of or the tainting of the male half, how the breaking lasted so long?

Well the Ogier in all their infinite kindness gave shelter to as many male channelers as they could find, letting the men shelter in their steddings where they could be free of the taint. But they did not understand that a channeler is to the power as an Ogier is to a stedding. We cannot stay away from it to long or the longing for it becomes too great. But when our ancestors those sisters who tried to hold the world together, came hunting those tainted men the Ogier would not see reason.

There are laws the Ogier claimed granted haven for anyone no matter what laws they had broken in the outside world, no matter what destructive potential they had. And so these men, not just a handful but hundreds, were sent out into the world one at a time over the course of a thousand years to wreak their havoc shattering all the rebuilding the tower had managed to begin. To this day the Ogier refuse to see the error in their ways. To this day these innocent giants are seen as models of honor and decency. I believe anyone harboring a male channeler, anyone who keeps that male channeler from being Gentled is worse than a murderer. Whether it be by innocence or by foolish laws, the blood of millions is on their hands, the rubble of civilization at their feet. For that is the destruction they have and will cause.
